Keeping in mind the rising prices of petrol and diesel and the problems arising from pollution, the demand for electric vehicles has increased rapidly all over the world, but the price of these trains is much higher than petrol and diesel vehicles due to expensive lithium ion batteries. . In such a situation, scientists all over the world are looking at sodium ion batteries as an alternative to reduce the price of electric vehicles. According to scientists, sodium ion batteries are more cheaper, safe and inventory friendly than lithium batteries.

A research team of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) of the US Department of Energy has developed a sodium ion battery after long research. In a research paper published in Nature Energy Journal, PNNL's lead author Jiguang Zhang says that sodium ion battery is future technology. These batteries can meet the need for electric vehicle throughout the day. Solar energy can also be stored in these batteries. He said that over time the electrical chemical reactions that flow electrical in the battery become dull and the battery is not recharged. In current sodium-ion battery technologies, this process is much faster than lithium-ion batteries. For the first time, scientists recharged a coin -shaped battery to the sodium ion battery during laboratory testing more than 300 times. Despite this, 90 percent of the battery had a capacity.

Atul Arya of Panasonic Life Solutions India's Energy System Division of India says that it will encourage consumers to take more electric vehicles after the announcement of the standards and the regulation of the regulation of battery safety by the Government of India.

Sodium ion batteries can be remove these concerns

Recently, scientists of London Imperial College have created a fast -charged prototype battery using sodium instead of lithium in the battery. Scientists chose sodium as an alternative to lithium as it is found in excess of lithium in nature and is easily available. According to the major researcher and Dr. Floren Gloclofer of the Department of Emperial and Dr. Florane Gloclofar of the Department of Chemistry, there is a concern all over the world about the effects of lithium ion -based battery on the environment. Sodium ion batteries can remove these concerns. According to Dr. Floren, as the device becomes old, lithium batteries lose their capacity. But our prototype battery did not lose its capacity even after charging 500 times. It is clear that there will be no problem in its production commercially.

Indian scientists get great success

In India too, rapid work is going on on the development of sodium ion batteries. Recently, researchers from IIT Kharagpur have developed sodium ion based battery and supercappers using Nano-composer. These batteries are considered better than the currently used lithium ion batteries. Actually sodium is naturally present in sufficient amount of natural amounts, which also reduces the cost of making these batteries. According to Amrish Chandra, Professor of Physics of IIT Kharagpur, who develops energy technology based on this sodium ion and lead the team, these batteries can be charged very quickly and they can be integrated with electric bicycles. According to Professor Chandra, sodium-ion-made batteries and supercappersitors can compete with lithium-ion based batteries. The combination of sodium-based oxide and carbon nanostructure makes high energy and power devices. These devices can be used in batteries powered vehicles that will eliminate the need to import lithium. According to Professor Chandra, the use of sodium ion batteries compared to lithium can reduce the price of electric vehicle by more than 25 percent.

60 percent stake in EV price of battery

The demand for electric vehicles is increasing rapidly all over the world. But their price is still much higher than petrol and diesel. Former Executive Director (Technical) K.K. Gandhi says that 50 to 60 percent of the total price of electric vehicles is of Lithium ion battery. In such a situation, research is going on all over the world to find options for lithium ion battery to reduce the price of electric vehicles. Sodium ion battery may be an alternative to lithium ion battery in the coming time. Actually sodium is easily available in nature compared to lithium. However, it is difficult to completely change the lithium ion battery in the next two to three years. This change will take some time.

Big possibility for India

Naturally the availability of lithium is low and its price is increasing rapidly due to increasing demand. In today's time, lithium batteries are used from laptop-mobile to electric vehicle. The price of lithium in 2012 was around $ 4500 per tonne. It has reached about 80 thousand dollars per tonne today. At the same time, sodium is easily available in nature. The price of sodium hydroxide is around $ 800 per ton. Sodium reserves are hundreds of times higher in the world than lithium. Sodium ion batteries have many advantages. One is very large sodium reserves, while on the other hand it is very easy to remove. Also, sodium ion batteries do not require cobalt, which is used in lithium. Cobalt mining is very difficult in Central Africa.
